The book explores the concept of cognitive dissonance, the psychological discomfort experienced when holding conflicting beliefs, and how individuals within the cult adjusted their beliefs to reduce this dissonance. The study centered on a group called the \"Seekers,\" led by Dorothy Martin, who believed a great flood would destroy the world, but they would be saved by flying saucers. When the predicted date of the flood passed without incident, the group members did not abandon their beliefs, but instead, many became even more fervent in their conviction, reinterpreting the failed prophecy.

トダンプ: 前に書店で買った「くまくんの絵本」ｼﾘｰｽﾞの「ようい、どん」が気に入った下の息子のために、同じｼﾘｰｽﾞで5冊まとめて購入。今回買った中では、この本が一番気に入ったようで、よく見ています。先日、姑にお風呂に入れて頂いた時、湯船に浸かって10まで数を数えるｼｰﾝをまねてか、急に数を数えるようになったそうで、姑を驚かせていました。
